This Is Just To Say by William Carlos Williams

One of his best known poems

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

  1. Every time I read this, I am jealous that no one in my family ever left me a note like this for me. Rather, I get — ‘we are out of plums, you know.’ Doesn’t have the same ring, does it?

Thanks for posting and rekindling daydreams of that other family!
