F. Scott Fitzgerald on writing

“Mostly, we authors must repeat ourselves–that’s the truth. We have two or three moving experiences in our lives–experiences so great and moving that it doesn’t seem at the time that anyone else has been caught up and pounded and dazzled and astonished and beaten and broken and rescued and illuminated and rewarded and humbled in just that way ever before.”

    • I’m glad you approve of the quote from one of your numerous homeboys.
And I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them on your blog. You are very good and I am now a follower. Perhaps I’ll submit something to your online magazine but more importantly, I look forward to reading your comments on books and writers.
I\ll have to become acquainted with your first homeboy but I certainly know the others. Maybe if I can limit myself to 10 of my own choosing I’ll email you my list. But I don’t know if I can.
I did meet Steinbeck once years ago and was too shy to ask for an autograph. But I did tell him how Of Mice and Men always makes me cry. Still to this day, too.

  1. Wow, thanks so much! You are SO lucky to have met Steinbeck. I can’t even wrap my mind around how amazing that would be. I would be way too shy to ask for an autograph! It does sadden me that all my homeboys have passed on, and I will never get a chance to meet any of them. Still, they live on through our love of their books don’t they.
Thanks for your lovely comment, and I would be thrilled if you submitted something to The Paperbook Collective!
