the winds

 they say

it’s not normal

the winds here

in Izmir

this time of year

but they blow

trees bend sway

branches shiver

apples fall to the ground

outside

and I find

a heaviness I felt

before

being blown away

on the wind

over the hills

to the sea

beyond

  1. Hey, I really like this one, L. You know how when someone tells you to take a deep breath and you find that by listening to them you are already taking a deep breath and already feel better? This poem works like that–by the time I got to the end of it I was feeling lighter, in league with the wind, not so bad, not so bad. Thanks!

  2. Thank you for the comment. And these winds have been blowing almost nonstop since I arrived Thursday night, keeping the cat fascinated as he sits by the window holding his breath.
