she stands

at the center
of the world
arms outstretched
head tilted back
that neck exposed
a smile with the joy
of childhood
and I
at the edge
look inward
eyes drawn irresistibly
toward her

    • I think all men have their own Helen of Troy, that ideal of a woman who, for them, could launch a thousand ships, and perhaps, for women, an ideal of Heathcliff maybe or some Byronic hero, or a Romeo, depending on age and temperament. The concept may change with age and experience and, if one is fortunate enough, may actually even be attainable in one’s life. And yes, I write of my Helen, and whether real or imagined, she is there at the center of the world for me.
