that voice
in the darkness
calling out
calling out
to anyone listening
a shot of whiskey
the piano melting
and you
in a red dress
dancing
dancing
just for me
that voice
in the darkness
calling out
calling out
to anyone listening
a shot of whiskey
the piano melting
and you
in a red dress
dancing
dancing
just for me

Beautiful poetry. My favorite Tom Waits song is his version of Sea of Love.
I also like his Somewhere but always return to Ol’ ’55 and I’m back in LA.
I’ll have to find that one, I haven’t heard it.
I don’t have all my CDs here in Istanbul so I can’t tell you which CD it was on originally but you can find it on The Asylum Years compilation which I have here among others of his.
Asylum Years is a great CD.
No matter what time it is when I hear a Tom Waits song, it SEEMS like it’s 3:00 a.m.
So true.
Wonderful imagery!
Thank you.
Can’t listen to “Ruby’s Arms” without shedding a tear.
It is a moving song.
Fond memories beautifully told
Thank you.
Yes, that voice.
No other quite like it.
Wow. I apologize though, despite encouragement from others, I’ve never been able to get into Waites. Maybe I’ll give it another go.😉 It may be due to having seen him as Renfield in Coppola’s “Dracula”. I just can’t shake that.
Well I’m glad I’m the reason you are thinking of giving him another chance. The earlier albums are my favorites.
He was a rather disturbing Renfield. But I do like many of his early songs. Such a unique voice.
A sort of throwback to The Beats.
Have you heard Holly Cole’s Temption album? It is all Tom Waites songs. It brings a new kind of life to them.
Yes, I have it. I have several of her albums and saw her perform once in NYC. I like her work very much.
Yes. She is fantastic. 🙂
