how nice it would be
to talk to someone
who remembers DeNiro
in Bang The Drum Slowly
who saw Mick Jagger dance
who loves Linda Ronstadt
who saw After The Wedding
who is reading Marquez
who has both read and seen
Milagro Beanfield War
to finally
after 6 years of talking
to myself
to have a conversation
on familiar ground
Context is everything sometimes. (K)
Right you are.
It’s good meet you . Not a huge fan of “bean field ” the book or the movie though. 🙂
I’m sure there are other things, though, on mutual ground.
I am sure. Smiles!
A yearning for the familiar. Sounds like you are a little homesick. I wonder though if you go back and fulfill that need to be on familiar ground and then return to your current surroundings will you then feel like you are content to be home. Home for me is always where the heart is.
I agree. And yes, I miss friends, my brothers. Will go back next year and replenish. But home, more or less, is here now.
I have always said that talking to ones self is healthy. The proof is in your results! Perhaps the next familiar ground won’t take six years. BTW, I recall Jagger dancing and loved Ronstadt !
Saw Ronstadt open for Neil Young at Madison Square Garden in NYC, plus in two plays at the Public Theatre. Saw The Stones twice, in NYC and in Cleveland. Great shows all.
Ah, Neil Young…another great talent. DeNiro is terrific, too. Not familiar with Marquez. Do you recommend a book?
One Hundred Years of Solitude.
I got to watch Ms. Ronstadt rehearse for a show at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach. And your other criteria fits too. I’m only 6,203 miles away, which, as you eloquently say, is the issue.
Ah yes: the issue.
Great post! And I love Linda Ronstadt
Thank you. Obviously me, too.
I liked the Milagro bean field movie and remember Bang the Drum Slowly, just vaguely. I believe in community spirit and pitching in! Your message was pertinent and music is a great tie to our past and connecting people, too.
It’s true that music/film/books bring back associations to people and the events of our lives.
