First Fine Dawn by Wang An Shi (translation)

Mary Tang’s newest translation on her blog Life is But This

Life is But This 命

First Fine Dawn by Wang An Shi ( 1021-1086)

In the sky the clouds are coloured with a wash of pink

On the roof the snow is softening in the valley

On the hills the trees are waking as dawn disperses the chill

Yet some few peaks are still cleaving to the white clouds

(c)Mary Tang 鄧許文蘭 2017

初晴。王安石

一抹明霞黯淡紅,瓦溝已見雪花融。

前山末放曉寒散,猶鎖白雲三兩峰。

  1. Thank you for the reblog, Len. It’s been raining incessantly here so on the first fine day we get I’ll be leaving my poetry books behind and catch up with work in the garden. Meanwhile translating these poems is keeping me sane. 🙂
