Autumn Reverie by Zhang Ji (translation)

another of Mary Tang’s translations from the Chinese on her blog Life is But This

Life is But This 命

It’s Autumn in Sydney.  The season for harvest and reunion.  A reminder of time passing.  This is one of my favourite poems about Autumn, from the Tang Dynasty, translated from Chinese to English:

Autumn Reverie by Zhang Ji  (767 – 830)

I see the Autumn wind blowing in Luoyang City

Stirring in me much yearnings to write home

Failing to express myself in such a hurry

I unseal my letter before the courier leaves

(c) Mary Tang 鄧許文蘭 2017

秋思。張籍

洛陽城裏見秋風,欲作家書意萬重

復恐匆匆說不盡,行人臨發又開封
