Dream Song by Li Qing Zhao (translation)

another translation by Mary Tang from the Chinese on her blog Life is But This

Life is But This 命

This Song Dynasty poem was written by the most celebrated woman poet in Chinese history, Li Qing Zhao (1084 – 1151).  The title indicates the set rhythm of a particular tune.

Dream Song by Li Qing Zhao

Last night a sudden gale scattered the rain

Slumber failed to quell the touch of wine

How can you who let in the day

Say that the begonias are as always?

Know this, know this:  there must be

Scant pink against the luscious green

(c) Mary Tang 鄧許文蘭 2017

如夢令。李清照

昨夜雨疏風驟,濃睡不消殘酒,試問卷簾人,卻道海棠依舊。 知否,知否,應是綠肥紅瘦。
