my father’s eyes
were tinged
with sadness
even when
he smiled
with occasional flashes
of anger
at what
could only be called
life
this
I grew to understand
came from reading
three newspapers
a day
my father’s eyes
were tinged
with sadness
even when
he smiled
with occasional flashes
of anger
at what
could only be called
life
this
I grew to understand
came from reading
three newspapers
a day

Now I think social media/the internet makes it even worse.
True. Things pop up and we have less control over when we see them.
I have friends who create bubbles so they can maintain their sanity. Not sure if that’s a good idea but I understand the impulse.
now you get the same effect from google
So true.
It’s a beautifully written poem. I hope the holidays are kind to you!
Thank you, Robert. Hope the same for you.
CNN, Fox News. At least the Australian press is still a little more inclined to write the whole truth. And that scares the daylights out of me.
I only read two papers: The NY Times & a Turkish daily and never feel particularly optimistic when finished.
Yup, reading three newspapers a day would do that to someone, at least in this day and age.
Definitely in this day and age.
The more you learn about what is happening, the more depressed you might get. What might also be saddening is seeing how slanted each of his newspapers is. But, depressing aside, you get a better idea of what might be coming.
Thank you for liking my poem!
Depressed or angry or possibly both. And you are most welcome.
