“I don’t think inspiration just comes from the sky. I think you have to sit down and you have to work. Sometimes it’s…”

from Douglas Moore’s Art of Quotation

Art of Quotation

“I don’t think inspiration just comes from the sky. I think you have to sit down and you have to work. Sometimes it’s really hard, and sometimes things come easier, but really you have to show up, you have to get to work, and you have to have determination.”

  1. Writing is work? I don’t think so. There’s a lightness to inspiration that isn’t consistent with my experiences of work. I think most often (parenthetically, I think in need a comma somewhere here) inspiration comes from the birds. So it does come out of the sky.

  2. I love the Calvin Coolidge rant about persistence over genius. Butt-in-chair is worth more that head-in-sky. Oh sure, inspiration is cool. It’s the fun part. But the butt in the chair…that’s what goes the distance. At least, that’s been my experience.
