In the inland of Australia 1000s of miles from the sea, gulls cover small town rubbish dumps. They have probably never been anywhere near the sea. And the Australian birdwatching community – pedants one and all- insist on calling them Gulls. I wonder if they miss the sea.
One adapts, I suppose, when one is too far from home with no chance to return. Even by nesting on garbage dumps.
