from Later by Robert Creeley

When I was a kid, I
thought like a kid —

I was a kid,
you dig it. But

a hundred and fifty years later,
that’s a whole long time to

wait for the train.

      • With this particular prose, I heard that he was at a clear loss of what being a kid was like vs being an adult. Or maybe I started thinking of myself.🤔

      • This excerpt of a much longer poem that was first published as a chapbook before being included in one of his books runs on for 9 sections. It really deals with the passing of time, of the death of loved ones, of how things, people, change over time. So one’s thinking, one’s perception of life, changes, too. I think your reading of it, though, when applied to that excerpt is a valid interpretation.

      • And so fitting and easily applicable for the age and passing of time dealings of today. Your poetic reads are always a ponder.
