morning

good morning

December 4, 2017December 4, 2017 / zdunno03 / 5 Comments

the sun shaded
by clouds
the air cool
on skin
the cat curious
of the crow
who hops
on the railing
to say good morning
as we sit
on the balcony
this day

another morning another day

November 18, 2017 / zdunno03 / 13 Comments

the cat curls
in my lap
as I watch the trains
roll by
while the sun peeks
through the clouds
over the hills
to the east
another morning
another day
here
in Aliağa

being optimistic

March 8, 2017 / zdunno03 / 6 Comments

rooster crows
somewhere
in the darkness
being optimistic
about the dawn

Anna rises

January 11, 2017January 11, 2017 / zdunno03 / 10 Comments

in the morning
Anna rises
naked
to stretch
arms encircling light
as the room
breathes her scent
then exhales her
into the world

night to morning, Maltepe

September 6, 2016September 6, 2016 / zdunno03 / 6 Comments

there are horns
tires screeching
a shout or two
dogs barking
a rooster crows
somewhere
toward morning
then light
fills the sky

as morning comes gradually

July 26, 2016 / zdunno03 / 7 Comments

coffee
spiked with Bailey’s
in my cup
gulls sail by
to greet me
mist rises
off Princes’ Islands
as morning comes
gradually
lighting the world

sometimes in the morning

July 23, 2016July 23, 2016 / zdunno03 / 9 Comments

sometimes
in the morning
the islands so clear
on a sea so calm
one can almost forget
the horns
the explosions
the chanting
from the night
before
and this world
in transition
turning
rapidly turning
once again

Maltepe morning

July 12, 2016 / zdunno03 / 15 Comments

sipping coffee
six floors up
gazing seaward
the gulls
gliding by
with promises
of flight

6am, Thursday morning, Maltepe, Istanbul

July 7, 2016July 7, 2016 / zdunno03 / 26 Comments

I stand eating
corn on the cob
on my balcony
at six
in the morning
gazing at the Princes’ Islands
basking in the sun
listening to gulls
flying overhead
feeling peace
descend
on my world

Maltepe morning

June 17, 2016 / zdunno03 / 6 Comments

early morning
sun creeps up
and lights
the world
as coffee
opens eyes
to watch

I'm a writer and an educator living in Istanbul, Turkey. I currently have two books published by Austin Macauley Publishers (Istanbul Days, Istanbul Nights & Rizzo's World) in the UK and three others (Night & Day, Wooing Wu, and Harry) available through amazon.com as kindles. Another mystery novel was translated into Turkish available through a publisher in Turkey. That's me as the writer. Currently I work independently as a coach/consultant in Turkey. Before this, I was a coach/consultant for managers at Petkim Petrol/Chemical Company in Izmir. I've also been the director of English language programs at five different colleges/universities: two in my native NY and three in Istanbul. That's me as the educator. I have two masters: an MFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green University (why oh why oh why-o, did I ever go to Ohio?) and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Columbia University. And besides all that, I once managed a shoe store, a warehouse, owned a literary bookstore called Intellectuals & Liars in Santa Monica, CA, worked as a professional boy scout, wrote advertising copy for radio, did summer stock as an actor, clerked in a food co-op, was a busboy for a day at Ziggy's Kosher Restaurant, sold vacuum cleaners at Gimbels, was a green attendant at Cypress Hills Cemetery and so on.
