Red Peonies by Wang Wei

February 20, 2018 / zdunno03 / Leave a comment

Such radiance of green,
so casual and composed;
The tint of her dress
Blends crimson with pink.
The heart of a flower
is nearly torn with grief:
Will spring’s brilliance
ever know her heart?

translated by Irving Y. Lo

from Passing the Temple of Accumulated Fragrance by Wang Wei

meditating
to chase away
the poison dragon of emotion

translated by David Young

Thinking of Us by Wang Wei

July 7, 2016 / zdunno03 / 12 Comments

Red beans grow in the south
In spring they put out shoots.
Gather a lapful for me–
And doing it, think of us.

translated by Gary Synder

Spring Farewell by Wang Wei

June 11, 2016 / zdunno03 / 10 Comments

Me in the mountains   and now you’ve left
Sunset,   I close the peelpole door.
Next spring   when grass is green,
Will you   return once more?

translated by Gary Snyder

Birdsong Brook by Wang Wei

March 20, 2015 / zdunno03 / 4 Comments

Mind at peace, cassia flowers fall,
Night still, spring mountain empty.
Moon rising startles mountain birds
Now and again sing from spring brook.

translated by Irving Y. Lo

Bamboo Pavilion by Wang Wei

January 8, 2015 / zdunno03 / Leave a comment

I sit alone among the tallest of the tall bamboo,
pluck the lute, and whistle melodies, again.
This deep grove’s unknown to other men.
Bright moon, when it comes: we shine together.

translated by J.P. Seaton

For Someone Far Away by Wang Wei

December 29, 2014December 29, 2014 / zdunno03 / 2 Comments

All year I stay alone in my bedroom
dreaming of Mountain Pass, remembering our separation.
No swallow comes with letters in its claws.
I see only the new moon like the eyebrow of a moth.

translated by Tony Barnstone, Willis Barnstone, & Xu Haixin

Mourning Meng Hao-jan by Wang Wei

November 27, 2014 / zdunno03 / 1 Comment

My dear friend nowhere in sight,
this Han River keeps flowing east.

Now, if I look for old masters here,
I find empty rivers and mountains.

translated by David Hinton

In Reply to P’ei Ti by Wang Wei

November 20, 2014 / zdunno03 / 1 Comment

The cold river spreads boundless away.
Autumn rains darken azure-deep skies.

You ask about Whole-South Mountain:
the mind knows beyond white clouds.

translated by David Hinton

untitled poem by Wang Wei

September 21, 2014 / zdunno03 / 2 Comments

You just came from my old village
so you know all about village affairs.

When you left, outside my window,
was it in bloom–that winter plum?

translated by David Hinton

I'm a writer and an educator living in Istanbul, Turkey. I currently have two books published by Austin Macauley Publishers (Istanbul Days, Istanbul Nights & Rizzo's World) in the UK and three others (Night & Day, Wooing Wu, and Harry) available through amazon.com as kindles. Another mystery novel was translated into Turkish available through a publisher in Turkey. That's me as the writer. Currently I work independently as a coach/consultant in Turkey. Before this, I was a coach/consultant for managers at Petkim Petrol/Chemical Company in Izmir. I've also been the director of English language programs at five different colleges/universities: two in my native NY and three in Istanbul. That's me as the educator. I have two masters: an MFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green University (why oh why oh why-o, did I ever go to Ohio?) and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Columbia University. And besides all that, I once managed a shoe store, a warehouse, owned a literary bookstore called Intellectuals & Liars in Santa Monica, CA, worked as a professional boy scout, wrote advertising copy for radio, did summer stock as an actor, clerked in a food co-op, was a busboy for a day at Ziggy's Kosher Restaurant, sold vacuum cleaners at Gimbels, was a green attendant at Cypress Hills Cemetery and so on.
