standing
on the balcony
shoulders hunched
against the cold
night air
erasing
all thoughts
of yesterdays
ignoring
tomorrows
numb
to what passes
for today
talking
my mind
to the moon
standing
on the balcony
shoulders hunched
against the cold
night air
erasing
all thoughts
of yesterdays
ignoring
tomorrows
numb
to what passes
for today
talking
my mind
to the moon

In Kate's World
Wonderful, especially those last three lines. A kinship with those Chinese Ancients comes across in this poem!
Thank you, Emily. I guess those Chinese are with me even when I’m not thinking about them.
Yeah, I really like this poem as well. I like the relativity of it all at times like that– the past, what’s the past? what we remember, what counted most, what left us? and what’s today even, what indeed “passed for” it? and how unfair is it to feel the need to ignore something that’s not even there? Those nights can be heavy, and the moon is so light.
Thanks, Jeff. The moon might be light but not light enough to float me away.
