since my mind is too numb and there is too much anger in my heart to find the words to react to Donald Trump, I turn to the Book of Odes (Songs), No. 52, for help

See the rat–at least it’s got a hide,
but a man with no manners,
a man with no manners–
why doesn’t he just die!

See the rat–at least he’s got teeth,
but a man with no decorum,
a man with no decorum–
what’s keeping him! why doesn’t he die!

See the rat–at least it’s got legs,
but a man without courtesy,
a man without courtesy–
why doesn’t he hurry up and die!

    • And it’s spreading, not just in the US but worldwide, especially the EU. This chaos in the Middle East is bringing out the worst elements of societies and they will, unfortunately, not go away. People like Trump just capitalize on their fear and hatred of the other.

  1. The Republican party has been pandering to the “deplorables” for decades, and it’s finally caught up with them and destroyed their party. I believe they made a deal with the devil years ago and finally got what they asked for. It’s going to be interesting to see if they take a moral stand (unlikely, but their only road to survival) or whether they are done for.

    • I feel sorry for Ryan but have little sympathy for the rest. There’s the old saying: you reap what you sow. But those “deplorables” are out in the open now and, I’m afraid, will not go back to the underbelly where they belong.

      • I think they might if both parties and the nation as a whole rejects them. The problem now is that a major political party has legitimize them. We’ve lost so much ground as a nation. It’s discouraging.

      • Yes, we have. The youth, though, especially those that supported Bernie Sanders, give me hope for the future. I may not see it, but I have hope it will one day be realized.

  2. We now see the true colours of the Republicans; sadly it is also the first time many Republicans see their real face, once hidden in the sand but now reflected brightly from the mirror that is Donald Trump.

    • Though I’ve always been a Reform Democrat, there were Republicans at one time not like the ones today: liberal & moderate ones. But that party has been taken over by conservatives like Ted Cruz, Mike Pence, and sadly Donald Trump. Hopefully it will self-destruct soon and something decent will rise from the ashes.

  3. Countries outside the USA can’t even vote, but so many of us will be affected by the outcome of the USA presidential election on so many issues. We hope the sane Americans will prevail, and think of you.
