they offer condolences
these great leaders
of the world
but their bickering
their self-interest
make their words
hollow
and people
cry out
when will it end
this cry
echoing
through the centuries
it will end
when it ends
which history shows
will not be
in anyone’s lifetime
meanwhile the bodies
pile up
on all our doorsteps
I have nothing I can say to add to what you said. You said it all.
Thank you.
So true, but the question still remains, what shall we do to stop it??
Since all the nations that should be concerned and cooperating to end this are at cross purposes, I do not see any way it can stop. Do you?
Well I find the only way to end this that all powerful leaders must set aside their opinions and personal differences and come together and do what is necessary for humanity. Religion or a region difference must never be a priority.
I agree.
Cannot press “like”, but I do tear up. So many people ask me why am I not living in Istanbul. Cannot explain to them, for years, we are scared to do so.
There is no place truly safe anymore as recent acts have shown. If it hasn’t affected your country yet, than I envy you.
Oh, it did, but not in ways so extreme. My husband says the biggest difference between Istanbul and Belgrade is that at here, he can be scared of earthquakes, robbery, murder, drunktards, forest fires, comets and Armageddons – but at least not terrorism.
Sounds like LA.
Very powerful! A call to change! Blessings for a New Year that is graced by PEACE!
One can only hope so.
You seem to be in the thick of it Leonard. Your calm presence is a positive influence.
Leslie
I think we are all in the thick of it one way or another.
That is true.
Unfortunately.
how was it possible that so much hate and violence have become the norm?
like an unstoppable disease this senseless violence will hit us all sooner or later!
will there be no place for hope in better days?
cold-blooded murderers will continue to decimate the innocents
it will take years to heal all the wounds of this insane war!
“Unstoppable disease” is a good analogy.
May someday we open our eyes in a peaceful world!
I wish it could be so.
Impossible to say ‘like’ to this one – just too true. So much for democracy… Bless you Leonard (by the way did you ever get that poetry book I sent you?)
Thank you, Maureen. And no, I never did. Lost in the mail, I imagine.
use my contact button with your address again and I’ll resend it – last time it went to an address in the States
In Bayside, NY but if you want I’ll give you one in San Francisco that may work better. Just email me for that address. I don’t want to post it here.
I was horrified to hear of the attack in Istanbul. There is no safe place as our enemies. (In terms of terror)are embedded among us and morphing as would a dread disease. There has never been peace and I am not hopeful that there ever will be among the many factions that make up this chaotic world of ours.
Unfortunately, I agree.
Interesting creatures; Human beings.
We pour our frustration towards these so-called leaders upon the very people who have tasted sufferings throughout their lives.
I’m not sure the word “interesting” applies unless it’s being used in an ironic manner.
It is.
So well said, Leonard. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Be safe, my friend ❤
Thank you. Let’s pray for the safety of all the people of the world.
Every day, Leonard, every day…
In one of Pink Floyd’s older songs they mention: “… nations wash their bloody hands…” which always makes me think of Herod in the Bible. None will take any responsibilities that could make him/her unpopular and none really want to end the wars…
So sad. 😦
Too much profit to gain. All self-interest, I’m afraid.
Yes, I’m sure you are right. Those who government are mostly interested in their own public image and gain. It is a sad world when we see thousands upon thousands of pictures of starving or hurt people, and none of those in power seem to do anything than add their own rhetoric, never to be followed by actions that would be helpful.
Sad indeed.
My heart goes out to all those who died during the terrorist attacks. We are all still shaken by the news! Blessings to you and your family from Greece!💝
Thank you. May we all one day be safe.
