A Farewell to Xie Ai Shan by Wen Tian Xiang (translation)

Mary Tang’s new translation on her blog Life is But This

Life is But This 命

A Song Dynasty poem translated from Chinese to English:

A Farewell to Xie Ai Shan by Wen Tian Xiang (1236 - 1283)

Today you threw on your clothes and left

I alone slept with books as my pillow

A shower is sweeping across the woods

Odd notes of cicada clicks in the house

Our long regard only engenders sorrow

My verses of woe are making no sense

I know not when we may meet again

A sky of west winds and ancient geese
