drop a line
and wait
patience
persistence
luck
bring home
the fish
of your dreams

listening to Waylon Jennings: for Cisco & Pancho
playing pool
in some local bar
whiskey sips
between shots
neither keeping
the score
the playing
what’s important
not who wins
it always was
that way
40 odd years
sworn brothers
from bell bottoms
to gray hair
if being an outlaw
is living
by one’s own rules
then heaven
was never an option
uncharted territory
is where you both
are headed
with Honky Tonk Heroes
full blast
on the tape player
of that ’66 Mustang
you’re driving

almost noon in Aliağa, June 4th, 2017
there is thunder
coming from a distance
soon the storm
will appear
and like all storms
will end
the world greener
for the rain
wearing your ring: for JLD
here
I sit
your ring
on my finger
these long years
drinking coffee
watching ships
at sea
and thinking
of your dreams
unfulfilled
hoping
one day
when we meet
again
you will
approve
Alica asleep
spread out
taking total possession
of the bed
her left foot
protruding from under
the sheets
even her mother
had given up
trying to cover
that errant foot
a smile lingers
on her face
as she dreams
of the man
she calls her own
here he comes
here he comes
the cat
slinking up the stairs
to hop on the bed
where he clearly feels
he belongs
following one’s heart
step
by step
along an oft times
perilous journey
one walks runs
perhaps crawls
toward the vision
one beheld
before doubt
fear confusion
clouded one’s eyes
there
lies the path
toward the source
of the pounding
of one’s heart
Alica takes to the highway
boots on
those legs
that take to hiking
she stands
right hand
on cocked hip
left arm up
thumb out
head tossed back
a rakish angle
hair cascades down
past her shoulders
heading out
on uncharted highways
destination home
