when all else fails
there’s always life
coming along to surprise you
it could be some gesture
a spoken word, or two
perhaps the touch of a friend
or someone not so friendly
a flood in the neighborhood
power shortages
a voice from the heavens
or someplace further south
or perhaps someone seen
in a different light
you know, something you didn’t expect
good or bad or indifferent
but you’re stopped short
breath held
there on the precipice
whatever balance you thought you achieved
is now called into question
go or stay
throw all caution to the proverbial winds
this business called life
suddenly changes
and whatever rules applied before
no longer matter
it is a new day
or maybe evening
and all you have are what’s left of your wits
so saddle up, partner
whatever it is
it’s begun
my problem is that i keep forgetting where i put my saddle
Well you could try riding bareback.
good idea
Let me know how it works for you.
wll do. 😉 but the last (and only) time I tried when i was 14, with an onery appalossa, didn’t turn out well.
Hopefully you’ll have better luck this time.
Beautiful, Leonard. Your words make me realize how lucky some of us are when we walk through the dark and live to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Well done. ☺☺☺
Thank you, Patricia.
Where would you put this one.? A niece went through her photo album and found a picture of me from 27years ago with me and a lady both smiling and happy and now, as I am living on my own, she sends me the photo and says she hopes I will become as happy as I was then. And she didn’t need to send the photo because the face has been in my head everyday for the last 27 years. Can I say it again, I feel like an old guitar and you keep plucking my strings.
Ah, the faces we carry etched in our memories.
You packed a lot in these verses. This piece is insightful and full. It would make a great teaching lesson for one of your literary classes. Saddle up!
Thanks, Michael.
Just when you think you have things mastered…
Do we ever really master life?
Of course not–only foolish pride on my part tricks me.
You are not alone in being tricked by foolish pride. We all fall victim to that at times.
Well said. Confidence in himself prevails.
The nature itself is untrue, why not one to have positive hope being alive.
Thank you.
You couldn’t describe this any better!! And it ‘certainly has begun!’
😊
Thank you.
Well said !!!
Thank you.
So very beautiful. You put words to a feeling.
Thank you.
