Behold us here, antagonists. See how
Each angry look is like a poisoned dagger.
A world of difference lies between us now.
The quarrel is: whose share’s to be the bigger.

Greed.
A motivating factor for war.
Greed? Maybe! But in the case of the war in Germany, the motivating factor was Hitler’s overwhelming desire, stemming from the loss of the First World War, to make Germany Great Again; a belief that the race of people he led were better than the rest.
But if you think of the drive to conquer by all three Axis leaders, then you see greed as a motivating factor of theirs. The thirst for more of land, of riches, of power, of oil today, always leads to conflict.
Scary! I don’t know a lot of Brecht’s work, but I like what I know.
Most know the plays but the poetry is interesting, too.
