a thousand years ago on some coastline in the fall

there were dead fish
that crunched
under our feet
and a smell
that reminded me
of sardines
you were saying something
I couldn’t hear
because you were talking
into the wind
and now
a thousand years later
I think if I heard
what you said
it would have been different
then and now
but there were dead fish
distracting me
and that wind
a thousand years ago
on some coastline
in the fall

    • Thank you but I think the years are basically neutral in their treatment of us: neither kind nor cruel. It is we who do the damage or the good to ourselves. And I, like most, have done both.

      • I was being silly, of course, but I do agree — time and life are gifts to use as we see fit. Whether or not we use them wisely is only determined when we sum up our existence.

        Great post. Be well. ☺
