there were dead fish
that crunched
under our feet
and a smell
that reminded me
of sardines
you were saying something
I couldn’t hear
because you were talking
into the wind
and now
a thousand years later
I think if I heard
what you said
it would have been different
then and now
but there were dead fish
distracting me
and that wind
a thousand years ago
on some coastline
in the fall
A thousand years ago?
Well it seems the years have certainly been kind to you! 😁
Thank you but I think the years are basically neutral in their treatment of us: neither kind nor cruel. It is we who do the damage or the good to ourselves. And I, like most, have done both.
I was being silly, of course, but I do agree — time and life are gifts to use as we see fit. Whether or not we use them wisely is only determined when we sum up our existence.
Great post. Be well. ☺
Thank you. You be well, too.
Because my mind works my way this reminded me of the Aral Sea. LeggyPeggy went there and had a look. It is worth going and looking for yourself. https://leggypeggy.com/2014/07/04/ghost-ships-in-the-desert-the-heartbreak-of-the-aral-sea/
And your poem really hit me hard.
Thanks for introducing me to Leggy Peggy & Poor John.I am now a follower. And I think I see the connection to this poem and the Aral Sea. Not such a jump after all.
She is well worth the following. Yankee blonde photojournalist girl marries Australian Diplomat and they travel the world.
An interesting couple leading a very interesting life together.
Strangely enigmatic! I like it though.
Thank you.
😊
So touching.
Thank you, Anna.
Really like this, Leonard, as if the wind were just coming ’round again.
Thank you, John. Actually I think it.
