Farewell to Yin Shu by Li Po (Li Bai)

We drink deeply beneath dragon bamboo,
our lamp faint, the moon cold again.

On the sandbar, startled by drunken song,
a snowy egret lifts away past midnight.

    • That one comes from a different collection of Hinton’s: The Selected Poems of Li Po. I actually several books devoted to either Tu Fu or Li Po or both of them paired together by different translators. And, of course, you find both of them in anthologies. You know, once you start collecting these books, it just never ends.
