from the poems of Han Shan: No. 5

My heart is the autumn moon
clear and white in a green pool.
No, nothing else is like it.
How can I make you understand?

      • I have mostly read Seaton’s, a little of Hinton, so not much to judge in the way of comparison. But I came to this whole amazing group of Chinese poets by picking up Seaton’s “Cold Mountain Poems: Zen Poems of Han Shan, Shih Te and Wang Fan-chih” one day in a bookstore while looking for some poetry to take with me on a train trip to NYC, so I’m partial to JPS at the moment.

      • It’s funny how one book can not only lead to discovering a different literature but also a whole new way of viewing the world which is strangely familiar.
